1. Start with the application

The manufacturer lists these uses for the XF-FRJ20 Flame Retardant Rubber Tape:

• Bolt connections
• Lighting circuit connections
• Ground connections
• Motor lead cable joint connections
• General electrical insulation and moisture-proof sealing

If your project falls into one of these groups, XF-FRJ20 belongs on your shortlist. If your project is main insulation restoration on medium voltage cable or weatherproof sealing in buildings, see the alternatives below.

2. Understand the medium and construction

XF-FRJ20 is a black, self-adhesive electrical insulating tape. The product description says it keeps its shape well, has flame-retardant electrical properties and acts as a solid insulation medium. Before ordering, ask your supplier to confirm that a self-adhesive rubber tape suits your connection and installation method.

3. Compare the published technical indicators

The manufacturer says these figures are average test results and should not be used as specifications. Buyers should run their own tests to confirm the tape suits the intended use.

4. Check the dimensions

Standard XF-FRJ20 sizes:

The manufacturer states that other sizes and cores are available on request. If you need a non-standard width, length or core, put it in your inquiry so the factory can confirm whether it can supply it.

5. Confirm the operating conditions

The XF-FRJ20 data sheet does not give a voltage rating, a working temperature range, or UV, ozone or water absorption results. If any of these matter for your installation, ask the rubber tape supplier for written confirmation and test the tape yourself. Do not assume the values listed for other tapes in the range also apply to XF-FRJ20.

When another tape may fit better

Medium voltage cable insulation: Medium Voltage Tape (XF-10#(S-4S)). This is a self-adhesive isobutylene insulating tape. The manufacturer lists it for main insulation restoration on 600 V–69 kV solid dielectric cable, jacket restoration at joints and terminals, moisture-proof sealing of connections, bus insulation and cable end seals. Its average published values are:

• Thickness: 0.80 mm
• Dielectric strength: 28 kV/mm
• Elongation at break: 700 %
• Working temperature range: -40 to 90 ℃
• Ozone and UV resistance: listed as PASS

The manufacturer recommends stretching the tape to 3/4 of its original width while wrapping, then adding PVC electrical tape over it for mechanical protection.

Building and structural waterproof sealing: Butyl Rubber Tape (XF-BT). This is a sealing tape for metal roofing, doors and windows, PC boards, curtain walls, vehicles and containers. It is not an electrical insulating tape. Published ranges:

• Thickness: 0.8–4.00 mm
• Width: 5–60 cm
• Thermal endurance: -40 to 90 °C

Selection checklist for buyers

1. Match your application to the manufacturer's listed uses.
2. Decide which matters more: flame resistance (XF-FRJ20) or medium voltage main insulation (XF-10#(S-4S)).
3. Choose width and length from the standard sizes, or ask about custom sizes and cores.
4. List your voltage, temperature and outdoor conditions, and get written confirmation where the data sheet is silent.
5. Test samples yourself, because the published data are average values, not specifications.
